The community is invited to “Honor Your Favorite Nurse” during Nurses Week to recognize excellence in nursing at Marshall Medical Center and provide nursing scholarships for those who serve during patients’ most vulnerable times.
The event sponsored by Union Bank and Marshall Foundation for Community Health will recognize and honor exceptional care provided from members of the nursing service. The community is invited to honor a local nurse, a family member in the nursing service or a nurse who has since passed away.
Each nurse honored and their sponsor will be invited to a tribute reception planned for May 17 at Marshall Hospital in Placerville. Nurses receive special recognition letting them know they are appreciated for their caring and compassionate ways.
The seventh annual celebration recognizes the Mathewson-Bonser Nursing Scholarship recipients who received $12,500 in scholarships during the past year: Raquel Alfaro, North 1; Lory Amey, TCC; Jessika Balderston, ER; Alea Marie Benavides, Lab; Kristy Berger, ER; Leanne Boyd, TCC; Teresa Hinz, North 1 & 2; Mary Melton, Surgery; Janet Powers-Gray, North 1; Heather Sebren, North 2; Amanda Seivert, North 2; and Lisa Seivert, TCC.
Increased levels of nursing training return to our community each year through the Mathewson-Bonser Nursing Scholarship fund. Drs. John Mathewson and Quentin Bonser had a dream of helping nurses further their education and upgrade their skills. Since its inception in 1990, community partners have offered support of the fund and helped 135 members of the nursing service at Marshall Medical Center receive $163,189 in scholarships in support of that dream.
This year’s committee chair, Patty Bonser-Sanford, R.N., asks the community to join together in honoring the devoted and caring nurses in celebration of the exceptional care provided.
To honor the nurse of your choice at Marshall Hospital or elsewhere, send $100 for each nurse honored to: Marshall Foundation, P.O. Box 1996, Placerville 95667 or you may donate online at marshallfound.org. Deadline for honoring a nurse is May 3.
