Mercy Medical Group recognized
SACRAMENTO — Mercy Medical Group, a service of Dignity Health Medical Foundation, was recently honored as a top-performing and most-improved physician group in California by the Integrated Healthcare Association at its annual IHA 2013 Pay for Performance stakeholders meeting in Los Angeles. There are Mercy Medical Group locations at 1700 Prairie City Road and 1730 Prairie City Road in Folsom.
Mercy Medical Group is one of 40 Top Overall Performing Physician Organizations for measurement year 2012. The awards are based on performance in four P4P quality measure domains: clinical quality, patient experience, meaningful use of health IT and appropriate resource use. Nearly 200 physicians groups, representing approximately 35,000 physicians who provide care for about 10 million Commercial HMO/POS members, participate in P4P.
Mercy Medical Group was also named one of the Most Improved award winners, which are determined by calculating the relative improvement for each physician organization on the overall composite score for this year compared to the overall composite score for last year. The physician organization in each of the eight P4P regions that has the highest relative improvement score for overall quality performance — and does not decrease performance in any quality measurement domain — is recognized as the most improved group in the region.
“We are honored to be named a Pay for Performance double award winner by the Integrated Healthcare Association,” said Alan Ertle, MD, chief medical officer at Mercy Medical Group. “This is a great testament to the team effort we have between Dignity Health Medical Foundation and Mercy Medical Group which both strive to provide consistent, high-quality care every day. These awards are a reflection of better care, and that is what our patients deserve.”
Seven California health plans contribute data and provide incentive payments based on the aggregated P4P results. The seven health plans are Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Cigna Healthcare of California, Health Net, UnitedHealthcare and Western Health Advantage.
The IHA P4P program is the largest non-governmental physician incentive program in the United Sates. The program provides physician groups with financial rewards based on their performance compared to quality and efficiency benchmarks. The goal of the program is to create a compelling set of incentives that will drive breakthrough improvements in clinical quality, efficiency and the patient experience through a common set of measures, a public report card and health plan incentive payments.
