Mormon Emigrant Trail closes Friday

PLACERVILLE — The Forest Service announced today that the Mormon Emigrant Trail that links Highway 88 and Highway 50 will be seasonally closed starting Friday, Nov. 19.

The road will be gated closed near the Iron Mountain Snopark, which is at 7,000 ft. elevation. The route will reopen in the spring, when conditions typically improve.

Signs will be posted on the Mormon Emigrant Trail near its intersection with Sly Park Road as well as beyond the dam at Jenkinson Lake. The northwest end of the route near Jenkinson Lake will not be gated which will allow continued access to Eldorado National Forest land, however, through traffic to Highway 88 will not be not possible.

Visitors should check the Eldorado National Forest website at  www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado for any seasonal dirt road closures.
