Oak Ridge Speech and Debate teams go to State

Oak Ridge High School Speech and Debate Team members Sanjay Raavi and Shaheryar Ajmal will represent their school at state competition in two events — International Extemporaneous Speech and Public Forum Debate.

The state competition will be held April 18-22 at West Ranch High School in Valencia.

“It has been three years that Oak Ridge High is represented at State Competition,” said proud coach Eric Larsen.

Other Oak Ridge team members who also qualified in Public Forum Debate are Anshman Kotha and Kathan Somavrapu. Both Oak Ridge Public Forum teams were undefeated at Capitol Valley Forensic League state qualifier held at C. K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento, March 8-9.  The State Speech qualifier took place at Saint Francis High School late last month.

The Capital Forensic League is one of the biggest Speech and Debate leagues in the area with 26 participating schools in  Yolo, El Dorado, Placer and Sacramento counties. The league is part of the California High School Speech Association and the National Forensic League.  his league has educated, inspired and guided young men and women in public speaking for more than 40 years.
