People Talk: What valuable lessons did you learn from your mother?

Natalie Wilson, El Dorado Hills: "She taught me to help other people, and to appreciate them for what they are. Now I try to teach that lesson to my children."

Kathy McPherson, Shingle Springs: "She told me I could have anything I was willing to work for. She's always lived that way."

John Euer, Cameron Park: "I was raised by my grandmother, a strong Christian woman. She taught me trust, honesty and to always eat what's put in front of me, which wasn't hard because she cooked things like Cornish pasties and shepherd's pie."

Sharon Euer, Cameron Park: "Mom had an artistic bent, which I picked up. I do a lot of crafts. She had a ceramic shop and I have a lot of her pieces."

Mazie Carnell, Sierraville: "Our mother Eva died at 29, leaving five kids. Pat and I went to Woodland to live with an aunt and uncle, who raised us like their own. She taught us about hard work, and we passed that down. We all cook like a farm women."
