People Talk: What valuable lessons did you learn from your mother?

Natalie Wilson, El Dorado Hills: "She taught me to help other people, and to appreciate them for what they are. Now I try to teach that lesson to my children."

Mazie Carnell, Sierraville: "Our mother Eva died at 29, leaving five kids. Pat and I went to Woodland to live with an aunt and uncle, who raised us like their own. She taught us about hard work, and we passed that down. We all cook like a farm women."
