World Famous Barber Jon’s owner, Jon Rivera, hosts his second arm wrestling competition fundraiser to support two local non-profit veterans organizations.

World Famous Barber Jon’s Open Invitational Arm Wrestling Competition Fundraiser, a family friendly event, will take place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at The Purple Place, 363 Green Valley Road in El Dorado Hills. Barber Jon, a U.S. veteran, chose to support two organizations that provide excellent support to United States veterans — Sierra College Veterans Cadre Foundation and Fregoso Outdoor Foundation.

Sierra College Veterans Cadre Foundation is a core group of dedicated student veterans trained to provide peer-to-peer mentoring. It provides assistance with college application and registration, GI Bill benefits, veterans’ resources, mental health awareness training, community service, social and recreational activities, and leadership training.

Fregoso Outdoor Foundation was founded in 2010 by El Dorado Hills residents Max and Kelly Fregoso to support soldiers, veterans and military families in coping with combat, deployment and adjusting to coming home. The foundation partners expert outdoorsmen and outfitters with the brave men, woman and their families who have sacrificed so much for us and provides them with the opportunity to enjoy the serenity and challenge of outdoor activities.

The arm wrestling competition will attract both professional and amateur arm wrestlers from the community and throughout Northern California. There will be Open and Amateur classes for men and women. The $30 registration fee includes a T-shirt and a ticket for a beer or soft drink and can be paid in cash at World Famous Barber Jon’s or The Purple Place.

In addition to the competition, live band Virginia Lights will be play at The Purple Place starting at 9 p.m. The nominal cover charge which will be contributed back to the fundraiser.

For those unable to attend the evening event, The Purple Place has generously agreed to contribute 20 percent of its sales throughout the day to the fundraiser if guests mention the event. Anyone interested in getting involved as a sponsor, participant or volunteer should contact Jon Rivera at [email protected].
