The calendar said January but it looked more like July on New Year’s Day at the El Dorado Hills Community Services District’s annual Polar Plunge.

More than 140 people participated in this chilly tradition at the community pool, celebrating 2012 by diving into the waters and coming up with smiles.

The CSD collected two large barrels of canned food at the Sunday afternoon event. Those donations will be given to Hands4Hope for distribution, according to Teri Groto, district supervisor.
