Rough day at the office — Then-Capt. Brad Ballenger enjoys a moment with his wife Laura after the 2005 Souza fire, which threatened the lives of firefighters when a portion of a tile roof collapsed. Ballenger went on to become a division chief with the El Dorado Hills Fire Department. He officially retires on Dec. 28, and plans to volunteer as a much-needed back-up chief.
