Soroptimist of Cameron Park /El Dorado Hills and Cameron Park Rotary host the Silver Anniversary Show and Shine and Fly In, benefiting local projects and programs, on Oct. 4 at the Cameron Airpark.
This event began a quarter century ago with a group of airpark residents, giving them a chance to display their airplanes along with the automobiles. After a time, the presentation of the event was assumed by the Optimist Club, which gifted the opportunity to Soroptimist of Cameron Park and they enlisted the participation of the Cameron Park Rotary.
The event has grown over the years. In 2013 there were approximately 200 cars and 45 airplanes on display. The attendees were treated to a fly over by Chuck Wahl of Vultures Row and his pilot friends.
This exciting family event is free admission (parking is $4) and activities will include breakfast by Rotary Team Pancake at 7 a.m. and a performance of the Ponderosa High School band at 10 a.m. Lunch will start at 11 a.m. and beer and wine will be available.
This year, the attractions include Julie Clark, a living legend of aviation, displaying her American Aerobatics plane. Julie is sponsoring the raffle of a pedal plane, painted to replicate her own plane. Raffle tickets are available before the event as well as the day of the event. Winner need not be present.
In addition, there will be live bands, DJs, vendor booths, sweet treats and a Kid Zone for the kids with a bounce house, face painting and a demonstration booth by a local bee keeper.
The day concludes with awards for the prize-winning cars and airplanes at 2:30 p.m.
