Cameron Park Rotary and Soroptimist International of Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills are hosting the 22nd Show and Shine and Fly In at the Cameron Park Airport on Oct. 13, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The airpark is located at Oxford and Fairway in Cameron Park. The event has expanded to attract more members of the community and the enthusiasts of airplanes and vintage cars. Proceeds from the event helps to fund a wide range of community activities.

Show and Shine and Fly In has become a major community event, attracting more than 2,500 visitors in 2010. The annual family event is a great day of fun, food, music and crafts in addition to classic cars and air planes. There will also be displays of military aircraft and helicopters as well as fire fighting trucks and aircraft.

In 2010 more than 50 vintage aircraft and 250 classic cars were displayed and judged in several categories by a panel of judges.

A pancake breakfast opens at 7 a.m., lunch begins at 11 a.m. and the Ponderosa High School Band performs at 10 a.m. Vendor booths, a bounce house for kids, RC demonstrations, hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, music, beer, wine and beverages will be available. Awards for best cars and airplanes will be announced at 2:30 p.m. This year there will be five drawings for $100 cash each beginning at 2 p.m. You must be present to win.

In addition to the cars and planes, more than 45 community organizations, sponsors and vendors lent their support to the event. Cameron Park Fire Department, local Boy Scout troops, the Ponderosa High School Marching Band, Civil Air Patrol, Shingle Springs-Cameron Park Chamber of Commerce and the Cameron Park Fire Department Explorer Post all participated in the day-long event. Cameron Park Rotary’s Team Pancake served more than 200 hungry visitors earning the Ponderosa High School Interact Club nearly $1,000 for their activities.
