Sons of Italy cookbook is mouth-watering

By From page A9 | August 28, 2013

Cherished family recipes, helpful hints for cooking and presentation and the satisfaction of contributing to scholarships, the Canine Division of the El Dorado County Sheriff Office, and several foundations for medical research is what purchasers of the new Sons of Italy Cookbook receive.

Not all the recipes in the cookbook are Italian, but all are tried and true favorites. Some, like the Bernardi Family Greens are very simple and others, like Chinese version of Lobster Newberg, are more complicated for those who like a challenge.

There are plenty of  recipes for zucchini, always handy for gardeners who get carried away during the summer. The Double Chocolate Zucchini Cake recipe might induce zucchini growth county-wide.

With appetizers, salads, soups, side dishes, main dishes, breads and rolls, desserts and cookies and candy, there’s sure to be something to satisfy everyone in this cookbook. There is even a recipe that serves 150 people, Minestrone Alla Raffetto, in case you have a big crowd to feed.

Each section of the book begins with a page of helpful hints like how to keep pasta from boiling over and how to keep cooked greens, green.

The books can be purchased at El Dorado Hills Travel, Suds Car Wash and Mia Sorello for $12. You can also order the books by calling Genny Arietta at (916) 933-0476.

Proceeds from the sale of the books go to the Gold Country Lodge No. 2705’s scholarships for students of Italian descent, to support Italian language classes, to support the Canine Division and for research for Cooley’s Anemia, the UC Davis Birth Defects Foundation and Alzheimer’s Research Foundation and the Cancer Research Foundation.
