UPDATED: Standoff ends with arrest

A man threatening suicide shut down El Dorado Hills Boulevard in El Dorado Hills after SWAT responded to his threats of shooting anyone who approached his apartment Wednesday.

Deputies were following up on a child molestation investigation involving Eric Hatfield Jr., 37, who was accused of molesting an underage female acquaintance, according to a press release from the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.

At 1:30 p.m., deputies confirmed Hatfield was at his residence at the Copper Hills Apartments. They surrounded the facility and made contact with Hatfield via telephone. He made suicidal statements, refused to leave the apartment and was believed to be armed with a shotgun.

The Crisis Response Unit was sent to the apartment. Just before 4 p.m., El Dorado Hills Boulevard between Olson Lane and Wilson Boulevard — a major road for commuters — was closed. The team negotiated with Hatfield and he surrendered at around 9:30 p.m.

Hatfield was arrested and booked into the county jail on suspicion of child molestation with bail set at $1 million.
