The state Senate District 1 Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

Mail ballots have been mailed. Return them as soon as possible either by mailing or dropping off at the Drive-Up Ballot Box in front of Building C at 2850 Fair Lane Court in Placerville; just follow the signs; no postage needed if using the drop box. Also, since this is the Christmas and New Year Holiday season, you might consider mailing your ballot by Dec. 29, as mail delivery could be delayed due to heavy volumes of mail. South Lake Tahoe voters may drop off their mail ballots at the Recorder-Clerk’s Office at 3368 Lake Tahoe Blvd., Suite 108, South Lake Tahoe.

The last day to request a mail ballot for this election is Dec. 28. If you vote at a polling place, the El Dorado County Elections Department staff has combined some polling places together so make sure you know the address of your polling place. Contact the Elections Department at (530) 621-7480 or go online to www.edcgov.us/Elections/.

The official canvass of the election results will commence no later than 9 a.m. on Jan. 5 at the Elections Office at 2850 Fair Lane Court, Placerville. This location is also the official tally center for the election.
