Fifth-grader Evan Bagdis’ work ethic earned applause and more at last week’s Rotary Club of El Dorado Hills meeting. The Silva Valley Elementary School student received the Student of the Month award.

Science and math are Evan’s favorite subjects and he also loves baseball, being both an A’s and Giants fan.

Principal Kathy Holliman said Evan, 10, works very hard in the classroom and has seen tremendous success thanks to his determination and his family’s support.

“No matter how difficult the taks, Evan comes in with a smile and a ‘can-do’ attitude,” added teacher Gwen Sigrist.

Also joining Evan at the Feb. 5 breakfast were parents Ray and Gabrielle Bagdis, brother Jason McDonald, 12, family friend Nikko, 5, grandmother Lee Willis and Silva Valley teacher and family friend Karen Schott.

Evan received a plaque and $50 from the club. He said he’s saving his money to buy a new computer.
