Oak Meadow Elementary fifth-grader Heidi Jaerger just came to the El Dorado Hills school a year ago but she’s left an impression that will undoubtedly last for decades and earned her the Rotary Club of El Dorado Hills’ Student of the Month award.

“I was just so lucky to have her this year,” said teacher Nancy Savage at Rotary’s breakfast meeting Wednesday.

Savage called Heidi a good role model — a student who works through challenges and perseveres — and said she wished she had a whole classroom of students like Heidi.

Though new to the area, Heidi didn’t wait for students to reach out to her, she reached out to them, said Principal Barbara Narez.

“She’s always giving, always being kind to everyone around her,” Narez added.

Heidi received a plaque and $50 for all her hard work and kindness.
