Eagle Scout Joshua Michael

HONORED — Joshua Michael, 14, received the rank of Eagle Scout last month after completing an awareness project at the Mormon Island Relocation Cemetery. The Scout with Troop 645 in El Dorado Hills installed an information kiosk to increase awareness of the cemetery and the plight of the Negro Hill graves. Joshua also participated in a Black History Month celebration at Folsom Lake College where college President Dr Thelma Scott-Skillman awarded him a Certificate of Recognition for “Exemplary Humanitarian Efforts, Volunteerism, and Outstanding Perseverance in the Mormon Island Relocation Cemetery Project.” Joshua is a straight A student at Oak Ridge High School and a member of the school’s cross country team. He was born in Seoul, Korea, and came to live with his adoptive parents and sister in 1996.  He plans to attend the United States Air Force Academy and pursue a career in aviation and service to his country.
