Sam Bhullar owns an El Dorado Hills landmark. It’s not sexy, but the iconic and increasingly faded orange ball with the big 76 dates back to 1964, when there was nothing else here and a buck got you four gallons of gas and change.
Diane Baczewski bought gas from Bhullar’s predecessors Del Haven and Harry Norris. She still fills up at the station, partly out of habit and nostalgia, but mainly for the service, she said.
The station regularly wins the ConocoPhillips Circle of Excellence service award.
The El Dorado Hills 76 is also an AAA approved auto repair shop.
Service Manager Steve Chart explained the shop’s popularity as a combination of quality work, fair prices and the same connection Baczewski described.
“These are our friends and neighbors here,” he said. “We’ve gotten to know them and their cars over the years.”
The El Dorado Hills 76 station is located at 1020 Saratoga Way, and can be reached at (916) 933-0835.
