Shell station wins best food and fuel stop

Village Life readers selected the El Dorado Hills Shell station as their favorite local fuel and snack stop. David Tooley opened the station 16 years ago, and has never stopped upgrading and remodeling it, always striving to create a “safe and comfortable” feel, inside and out, he said.

Tooley cited competitive gas prices, and consistent, high-quality customer service as defining characteristics of the El Dorado Hills Shell, which is located on Saratoga Way, just off El Dorado Hills Boulevard, north of Highway 50.

The first word in convenience stores is convenience, and Tooley said that starts with easy access and one-stop shopping.

The station adjoins the Raley’s parking lot, which means customers can fill up their tank and do their grocery shopping without getting back on El Dorado Hills Boulevard.

The station also offers a car wash and the ethanol-based E85 Green Wave fuel for flex-fuel vehicles.

Tooley, who lives in Sacramento, owns 10 Shell stations in the area, and said he’s learned not to rest on his laurels. The inside of his El Dorado Hills store is scheduled for another facelift this year, “before it starts looking tired,” he said.

The El Dorado Hills Shell station is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
