Oak Ridge tennis ends in loss
All good things must come to an end. Monday, a seemingly charmed Oak Ridge tennis team met its match against a very strong St. Mary’s team in Division I action.
Monday’s match began with two losses from Tori Trylovich (in three games) and Katrina Lund (in two), putting the Trojans at a significant deficit out of the gate.
Victoria Waugh responded with a win over St. Mary’s Elizabeth Stephens in the No. 3 slot. Unfortunately, hers would be the only win of the match. With a slew of losses in the remaining singles and all but one doubles match, the Oak Ridge season ended.
“Unfortunately. every season ends in a loss and ours came yesterday against a tough St. Mary’s team,” Oak Ridge coach Ralph Clark said Monday. “We didn’t respond well to losing three first set tie breakers. That along with the loss of two three-setters spelled the end of our first season in Division I.
“Co-captain Victoria Waugh finished her career with some of the best play I’ve seen from her in four years,” Clark said. “Freshman Rachel Librach and Gabby the ‘Gabenator’ Zeagler overcame a slow start and got our other win.”
