Capital Crew rows to victory

Capital Crew, a junior rowing team of the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, won the Women’s Junior Lightweight 8 Referees’ Cup at the 39th annual San Diego Crew Classic last month.

The San Diego Crew Classic is the largest open rowing regatta on the West Coast. More than 4,200 athletes competed. Participating rowers included those at the high school, collegiate, and master’s levels from across the country, Canada, Britain and Mexico.

The winning team members are: coxswain Natalie Tarrant (American Christian Academy) of Shingle Springs; rowers Belinda Tarrant (American Christian Academy) of Shingle Springs; Maile Seto (St. Francis High School) of El Dorado Hills; Sarah Ringler (Folsom High School) of Folsom and Emalia Seto (St. Francis High School) of El Dorado Hills; as well as Mary Molitor (St. Francis High School) of El Dorado Hills, Sophie Kershaw (St. Francis High School) of El Dorado Hills, Jessica Zannakis (Folsom High School) of Folsom and Hannah MacTaggart (Vista Del Lago High School) of Folsom.

The girls are coached by Toby Johnson and assistant coach Erik Brakebill.

These same athletes will also compete May 5-6 at Lake Natoma in Gold River at the U.S. Rowing S.W. Jr. Rowing Championships attempting to qualify for the Youth National in Tennessee.
