Cougars, Trojans at Bronco Invite

FAIR OAKS — The Oak Ridge and El Dorado track and field teams were a part of an 18-team field at last weekend’s Bronco Invitational at Bella Vista High School.

Each team produced a winner. Cougar Matt Johnson took first in the pole vault while Trojan Jacob Sipes won the 300m hurdles. The top six placers earned points for their team.

Johnson won his event in a jump-off, soaring 14-1 for the second-best, all-time record at El Dorado, held by his dad. The competition came down to Johnson, Cougar Sam McCrea and an Elk Grove vaulter. McCrea, who finished third, vaulted 13-7 for a PR of 11 inches higher.

El Dorado came in after its big tri-meet victory earlier in the week over Vista del Lago and River City.
