Delta River League crowns local Track/Field champs

Qualifiers advance to Divisionals

SHINGLE SPRINGS — Thursday’s Delta River League Track and Field finals was where host Ponderosa and Oak Ridge crown 13 individuals and one relay team league champions.

All but six titles came on the track. The top five finishers in each category qualified for this week’s Divisional Time Trials and Finals at Elk Grove.

The Trojans claimed eight titles and the Bruins won seven. There was one dual winner: Lady Trojan Shannon Trumbull who won both the 100 and 300 hurdle events. Oak Ridge also had the relay race as Jean Yves Diei, Jacob Sipes, Matt Monet and Shay Mueller teamed to win the boys 4 x 400.

Troy excelled on the track behind Maxine Goyette, Holli Arrieta and Rachel Peterson won the 1,600, 800 and 3,200 meter runs, respectively. In field events, Jessica Emde soared to a win in the high jump. On the boy’s side, Sean McHone was first in the 1,600 race.

Like McHone and Goyette who were 1,600 distance winners from the same program, Ponderosa claimed both pole vault titles. Connor Goss cleared 13 feet to best all challengers while Syndney Blakely vaulted 11-9 in the girls competition.

Other Bruin wins came from Alex Roberds who crossed first in the 400 meter race; Erik McKinnon who heaved the discus 149-7; Ali Ryan, contemplating an additional offer on top of her basketball scholarship at the University of Portland to shot put was well, chucked a throw of 41-8.5 feet to win the shot put; and Danylle Kurywchak’s 37-2 feet flight to win the triple jump.
