CAMERON PARK — Ponderosa’s Corey Pereira carded a 70 at Monday’s Division I North Tournament at the Cameron Park Country Club to lead all golfers vying to advance to the Masters next Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.
Pereira’s two-under finish on the par 72, 18-hole course qualified the Bruin. Teammate Brad Peil turned in a 77 and will join Pereira in Stockton.
Teamwise, Oak Ridge, featuring Charlie Cameron, Tyson Tavalero, Quinn Carlsen, Josh Keplinger, Cole Kenny and Connor Gaymon, took second place with a team score of 397 to advance. Jesuit was first, just three strokes ahead of the Trojans while Vacaville was third after its one-hole playoff win over Davis.
In Division VI play at the Lockeford Springs Golf Course in Lodi, Golden Sierra’s Morgan Jones shot a 102 and Joey Schendel a 111.
“It was a tough day but they both had a lot of fun and represented Golden Sierra well in the sectionals,” Grizzly coach Scott Gilliland said.
