EDH 10/11s defeat Roseville West
Taking on Roseville West at Jeff Mitchell Field Wednesday, the El Dorado Hills 10-11 All-Stars had the opportunity to clinch a spot in the tournament semifinal and thanks to eight early runs did just that with a 10-6 victory.
El Dorado Hills got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second inning, capitalizing on a Peyton Vota hit that scored Nathan Schumaker. Starting pitcher Sam Manfredi dominated, striking out two in the second and one in the third as he breezed through the Roseville bats.
Another run scored in the fourth started by two-out singles from Bryan Steurer and Schumaker and a wild pitch.
In the top of the fifth, El Dorado Hills pieced together a long string of hits for an eight-run advantage. Eric Bare reached on a rope single to right center scored on Drake Bicknell’s long single to the center field. Hayden Throckmorton singled to center and two more runs scored on a Roseville West error off a Dylan Fowler hit. Another run scored on a wild pitch, and Fowler scored later on a fielder’s choice ball.
With the big lead, El Dorado Hills closed in on a blowout win but Roseville West put up a fight before Throckmorton, called on in relief, git his team back to the dugout holding an 8-6 lead.
“(Hayden Throckmorton) came in the last two innings and shut them down,” manager Gary Throckmorton said. “He was able to fight through and the team made some great plays behind him.”
El Dorado Hills looked to add some insurance runs in the sixth. Bare lead off with a double to right, and he immediately scored on Bicknell’s double to left. Throckmorton reached on an infield single, and pinch runner Ethan Walker scored the final run of the night.
Hayden cruised through the Roseville West lineup in the bottom of the sixth to wrap up the victory.
El Dorado Hills plays next on July 7 against the Woodcreek-Folsom American winner.
“We’re playing great right now. I like the energy, I like how they’re fighting every inning,” Gary Throckmorton said.
