EDH Majors fall one run short

GRANITE BAY – Drew Walling’s successive strikeouts stranded Anthony McDaris at second base in the bottom of the sixth inning as Lakeside edged El Dorado Hills 6-5 in District 54 Little League Majors’ All Star action at Feist Park Saturday.

El Dorado Hills had battled back from a 5-0 deficit and were in good shape with Anthony Pallari on the mound until a controversial Lakeside at bat led to the eventual winning run.

Tied at 5-5 going to the fifth, El Dorado Hills lost its objection to a one-out hit batter that umpires determined had been grazed by Pallari’s pitch. A ball to the backstop and throwing error compounded the inning before TJ Patterson’s slow bouncer to the right side broke the tie.

Pallari fanned the next two to avoid further damage but Walling retired 6-of-7 in his two innings — the last three via strikeouts — to send El Dorado Hills to the loser’s bracket.

Over the first four innings Saturday, El Dorado Hills made good contact but hit a lot of ball right at the Lakeside defenders. Coupled with the good bounces, El Dorado Hills’ output was limited to the five runs.

Matt Murphy got the start for El Dorado Hills but had trouble finding the strike zone. That, along with several mental mistakes by the infield led to Lakeside’s 5-run top of the first inning.

In the bottom half after a out-out walk to Pallari, Ben Carroll got two runs back with a high drive that drifted over the right-center field fence.

El Dorado Hills tied it in the fourth behind some production from its bench. After McDaris singled up the middle, Xavier Fosbenner came in and was hit by a pitch. Joey Cooper then hit a ground rule, RBI double to bring on the Lakeside bullpen.

A wild pitch plated Fosbenner before Griffin Gould doubled up the alley to score Cooper. A hard-hit out and flyout ended the inning with the score tied.

El Dorado Hills faced Woodcreek Sunday in hopes of another crack at Lakeside.
