EDH Wrestling Club takes top 13

BIG FINISH — The El Dorado Hills Wrestling Club qualified 11 wrestlers for the 2011 Tournament of Champions on March 12. They came home with an impressive 13th-place finish. Courtesy photo

The El Dorado Hills Wrestling Club won 19 matches at the Northern California Junior High Tournament of Champions held at Del Oro High School, taking home 13th place.

Rolling Hills seventh-grader Brandon Claiborne led the EDHWC charge with a 6-1 record that earned a third place podium position at 108 pounds. Eighth-grade team members Josh Ploke (83 pounds), Jordan Undseth (128 pounds) and Josh Ferry (153 pounds) wrestled in their second and final TOC tournament, just missing the opportunity to wrestle for medals.

Upperclassmen Ryan Redhair (108 pounds), Jake Plaskon (118 pounds) and Josh Brown made their first TOC trips. Redhair reached the quarterfinals before bowing out and Brown and Plaskon added to the team totals. Sixth-graders Jack Likins (76 pounds) and Jacob Flores (83 pounds) qualified in their first year eligible for the tournament, both had wins that added points to the team results. Colton Lamson qualified in the 108 pound class. Claiborne, Ferry, Likins, Plaskon and Undseth all bumped up their point contributions with wins by pin.
