El Dorado Hills 9-10’s rout Cosumnes River

ROSEVILLE — Eight hits that included back-to-back home runs set the tone for the El Dorado Hills 9-10 All-Stars baseball team, which routed Cosumnes River, 13-3, in the District 54 All-Stars tournament at Richards Field Thursday.

El Dorado Hills sent 17 batters to the plate in the first inning that produced 12 runs off eight hits, four walks, hit batter and an error. Jack Carroll, Jackson Malchow and Jack Pina had two hits each in the inning; each went 2-for-3 in the game. Malchow had 4 RBIs and scored twice, Carroll had 2 RBIs and also scored twice, and Pina hit two doubles in the inning, had an RBI and scored.

After Brady Routon walked, Malchow clubbed a two-run home run over the right field fence to give EDH a 4-0 lead. Braden Frank added another dinger, also over the right field fence, for a 5-0 lead.

Five of the next 11 El Dorado Hills batters reached base on a hit; Pina hit his second double, and Cole Armstrong singled. Carroll’s second was also a double. Malchow singled. Andy Uharriet walked twice in the inning, and Calin Trexler was hit by a pitch. Frank’s second plate appearance led to reaching first base on a Cosumnes River fielding error.

“It was great to see them ready to go, ready to play like that,” said El Dorado Hills manager Mike Frank. “It’s all you can ask for.”

Cosumnes River scored one run in the third and two in the fourth, and finished with four hits in the game.

El Dorado Hills, which had 10 hits in the game, scored its final run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Nico Horning walked and scored on Armstrong’s double. The game was called because of the mercy rule.

The win was El Dorado Hills’ second consecutive win of the double-elimination tournament.

On Sunday, El Dorado Hills played Woodcreek. If EDH won, it plays for the District 54 title Tuesday at 7 p.m., and again on Wednesday if it loses its first game. If EDH lost Sunday’s game, it plays again Monday at 7 p.m. in which the winner advances to Tuesday’s title game. All games are played at Richards Field.
