First tournament title for Ethos
Ethos FC U12 Boys Gold grabbed the first tournament title in the club’s history at the HSC Invitational in Concord on May 27. The Saints defeated the host team Heritage Venom 2-1 in the championship game at Tesoro Field.
Ethos is in its first year of competitive soccer and is based in El Dorado Hills.
The team’s coach (and Ethos Soccer President) Fritz Libby was thrilled with the victory, especially since it brought back memories of his own soccer youth.
“I learned to play competitive soccer in the Bay Area and I remember this field well,” said Libby, who grew up in Walnut Creek. “I can’t compliment the boys enough for their hard work, and a big thanks to their parents for taking a risk in joining a new, untested organization.”
In first game of the qualifying round Ethos tied Heritage Venom 1-1 before defeating East Valley FC Black 5-1 and Santa Rosa United Liverpool 2-0 to set up the final game rematch. In the 5-1 victory over East Valley striker Matthew Strangio scored the club’s first official “hat trick.”
Several Ethos teams will be in action locally during June at the Cherry Island Soccer Complex, including the U14 Boys (San Juan FC California Cup, June 22-24) and the U10 and U12 Boys Gold (American River FC Independence Cup June 29 through July 1). All seven of the Ethos teams will begin NorCal league play later this summer, with matches scheduled to be played on Saturdays and Sundays at Rolling Hills Middle School.
