Former Trojan now a Marlin

Former Oak Ridge High and Cal pitcher Kyle Porter was selected by the Miami Marlins in last week’s Major League Baseball Draft in the 31st round.

This past season for the Bears, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Porter went 6-5 with a 3.01 ERA. During his years at Cal, he picked up a combined 15 wins with a 3.04 ERA, and 158 strikeouts in 195.1 innings.

His best outing this season was on March 29 against Utah, where he had a career-high 11 strikeouts and went 8.2 innings. Porter was an honorable mention Pac-12 All-Academic.
