SIERRA-AT-TAHOE — South 1 Division alpine skiers and snowboarders completed their third and final Giant Slalom race of the season Monday on Sierra-at-Tahoe’s Lower Main course in front of the lodge.

Individually, all four winners from last week: Skiers Reid Lambres (Ponderosa) and Emily Vivian (Oak Ridge); and boarders Katie Harris (El Dorado) and Zachary Larsen (Oak Ridge), repeated in first place while team-wise, the Bruins flexed their collective muscle in winning 3-of-4 events: boys ski, girls ski and boys snowboard in addition to both combined results. The Lady Cougars out-pointed the field in their snowboard race.

The season consists of two more slalom races before a break in front of next month’s State Championships at Mt. Shasta.

Vivian, a North Carolina transplant, improved her quest to reach the top of the all league team with her second consecutive win after two, earlier, second-place finishes. She is tied with Ponderosa’s Fiona Zeier with two wins apiece.

“It was weird coming back from the slalom (last week) and the transition to using more technique,” Vivian said. “I’m always nervous before the first run but the coaches helped loosen me up at the top which helped and it was a great course today. The second run went smooth.”

Zeier trailed by over six seconds to take second for the second straight week. Bruins Amanda Pinski and Lauren Olson were third and fourth and rounding out the top five was Trojan Danica Stevensen.

Lambres continued his streak of wins but had to fend off teammates Andrew Olson, Ryan Fischietto, Michael Duhain and Samuel Neil as Ponderosa placed five skiers in the top six. Golden Sierra’s Alexander Murray, second last week, was third Monday.

Like Lambres, Harris has won each race this season and enjoyed roughly the same winning margin as Vivian. El Dorado’s Madison Orr, Taylor Caldwell and Abbi Duffy were 2-4-5 while Bruin Monica Zutter remained consistently strong with a third place finish.

On the boys snowboard side, Larsen won for the third straight week after crossing second back in the season opener. Union Mine’s Brian Williams had the D’backs best finish with a second and Ponderosa came in 3-4-5 behind Reed January, Davis Alexander and Jacob Hunter, respectively.

“Going into my first run I’d heard a lot of rumors that the course was icy and no one could hold their edge but I slipped it and knew its danger spots,” Williams said. “The course had a lot of speed and was very aggressive and fun.”
