Frosh/soph Trojans win invite

Oak Ridge’s cross country season got off to a great start at the Aug. 31 Oakmont Invitational at Maidu Park in Roseville.

The Frosh/Soph girls turned in the best team performance for the Trojans, placing first with 35 points. Sarah Dolley led the team with a first-place finish time of 15:55, beating Chase Worthen of St. Francis by two seconds.  St. Francis placed second with 57 points. The Lady Trojans team had four girls who placed in the top 10 and the girls earned a plaque for their performance.

Athletes who competed on the Frosh/Soph girls team were Sarah Dolley, Briana Dulgar, Mikhayla Polivka, Arial Hendrickson, Peyton Wright, Katie Sanfelice, and Sarah Connor. The JV girls turned in a very good team effort by placing second with 62 points.

The varsity girls were led by senior Rachel Peterson, who ran a very solid race placing eighth with a time of 15:18. The varsity boys were led by junior Alex Merry, who placed 23rd with a time of 13:24. The JV girls were led by senior Sami Kilcollins, who placed sixth with a time of 18:32. The JV boys were led by junior Ian Feekes, who placed 10th with a time of 15:10. The Frosh/Soph boys were led by sophomore Austin Streetman, who raced very strong to place sixth with a time of 13:37.

This was the first time the Oak Ridge cross country teams participated at the competitive Oakmont Invitational, at which 17 teams participated.

The Oak Ridge cross country athletes will be getting solid training before they compete in the Sacramento State Hornet Jamboree at Granite Regional Park on Saturday, Sept. 14. The first race at the Hornet Jamboree is the 2 Mile High School Open race at 7:45 a.m.
