Back-to-back home runs paved the way for the El Dorado Hills Giants, who posted a 4-1 win over the Ponderosa Red Sox in the District 54 Little League Majors Division’s Tournament of Champions at Rotary Park last Wednesday.
Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning, the Giants added the final two runs when Anthony Pallari and Tim Bethencourt clubbed back-to-back home runs over the center and right field fences, respectively. Nathaniel Rogness had an infield single to give the Giants three hits in the frame.
In the top of the fourth, the Red Sox posed a threat as Alex Marchi had an infield single and moved to second base on a ground out. But Pallari, on the hill for the Giants, struck out two of the next three Red Sox batters to end the inning.
The Giants’ bats were silenced in the bottom of the fourth inning when Red Sox pitcher Jacob Scowcroft struck out two Giants while the infield recorded the third out. In the fifth inning, Marchi came in and also kept the Giants off the scoreboard.
The Red Sox had one more chance to rally in the top of the sixth inning. Galvin Zeller walked with two outs. But the Giants’ Anthony McDaris recorded a strikeout while the infield recorded the final two outs to end the game. McDaris, Rogness and Pallari split time on the mound for the Giants.
In the top of the third inning, the Red Sox scored their lone run when Ethen Edwards singled, stole second and scored on a Giants’ error.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Giants scored their first two runs on a single, walk and an error.
