Coming off its frustrating defeat to Granite Bay, the Oak Ridge varsity girls lacrosse program bounced back with a vengeance Friday night, improving to 6-2 with a 26-1 rout of Bella Vista Friday night at home.
Scoring four goals in four minutes to jump ahead, the Lady Trojans made quick work of a struggling Bella Vista squad, leading 19-1 at half.
“Granite Bay beat us rather handily,” head coach Eldore Wood said. “So it was going to be interesting to see how the girls reacted to that loss. They came out in a way that I was proud of, they played with intensity and had an outstanding first half.”
Madisyn Hallare had a game-high five goals, while Kayla Galet contributed four and Mariana Alvear, Sara Cody and Jessica Hanson each worked their way to three each. Kacie Weidert picked up a pair of goals while Alia Crook, Bridget Malone, Madeline Olds, Morgan Janice, Samantha Donaghey and Arielle Spring hit threads to round out the scoring for Oak Ridge.
Troy leveled off in the second half, working to contain a Bella Vista squad that despite the score was determined to fight.
“We wanted to be gracious and respectful of Bella Vista,” Wood said. “We played well against a team that is not quite as developed yet — but they (Bella Vista) deserve credit for their effort on the field, they didn’t quit and it will be great to see that program develop and improve going forward.”
Oak Ridge has big matches against St. Francis, Davis and Granite Bay on the horizon.
