Jr. Bruins host hoops tourney

Cameron Park Jr. Bruins Basketball, a local non-profit eighth-grade competitive AAU team, hosted a four-team tournament at the Cameron Park Community Center Saturday.

In addition to the Jr. Bruins, the Vista Talons, the Kings (both Folsom teams) and West Slope (an El Dorado Hills team) competed. There were more than 100 spectators on hand to watch the games.

Also organized were two free throw contests throughout the day with the overall winner receiving two Sacramento Kings tickets. The event was organized by the Jr. Bruins as both a fundraiser for the team as well as an effort to spotlight the gym at the community center.

The eighth-grade Jr. Bruins team, in its sixth year together, is coached by Sheri Millhollin. The team competes year-round locally as well as travelling for tournaments. Millhollin’s focus for the team has been to prepare the boys for high school basketball.

The Jr. Bruins plan to host more tournaments at the facility in 2013.

Tournament results

First place: Folsom Kings

Free throw contest 1: Luke Alalovic (overall winner)

Free throw contest 2: Matthew Ehrlich
