The Oak Ridge High School boys junior varsity soccer team finished the 2011 season with a 9-1 record in the competitive Delta League.

Oak Ridge’s only loss was at the feet of a strong Jesuit squad last week. The game ended with Oak Ridge losing 2-4 on a last second score by Jesuit.  After beating the Jesuit freshman team 3-2 early in the season, Jesuit fielded their “A” team to hand Oak Ridge the league loss.

The JV squad posted two victories each over Pleasant Grove, Sheldon, Folsom and Ponderosa high schools. The season was shaped by strong defense. The team scored 34 goals during league play while allowing only 13, with six of those goals coming from Jesuit.

Noah Bensman, Connor Flynn, Alex Herzog, Andrew Barton and Hunter Tully proved nearly impenetrable on the back line. Connor Hayes and Neil Rodriguez shared goalie duties. Offensively, JV Trojan scoring was led by Brian Looper, Alex Piatek, Sean Miller, Ahmed Abdalla and Tyler Sarner. Other members of the team included freshmen Cole Cahill, Zach Legge, Sam Miller and Michael Trumbull. Sophomore players Greg Smolarski, Cameron Perkins and Patrick Soper rounded out the squad.  The team was coached by Alyse Kopp and assistant coach Zandee Newell.
