Facing Pleasant Grove in the championship game of the annual Trojan Shoot-Out Saturday, host Oak Ridge came out and dominated the Eagles, cruising to a 75-31 win over its Delta River League neighbors.

In taking home the first place trophy, the Lady Trojans upped their record to 6-1. Thus far, Oak Ridge’s only loss has been to nationally-ranked Mater Dei. At the Shoot-Out, Oak Ridge had a 63-24 win over El Camino and a 54-16 blowout of Winters.

“What stood out the most is I played 10 players, and they all went out, played together and did a phenomenal job,” Troy coach Steve White said after Saturday’s victory. “Very unselfish, team basketball.”

A quick-strike style of offense enabled the Trojans to take a 9-2 lead after a Grace Derksen jumper. Oak Ridge’s full court press threw off the Pleasant Grove offense and after Haley Anderson’s jumper, Sydney  Stigerts stepped in front of an Eagle pass to find a wide open Ali Bettencourt, who nailed a three pointer as Oak Ridge held a 16-2 advantage afte the opening quarter.

The onslaught continued in the second as the Trojan lead continued to increase. Oak Ridge extended to 28-5 when Jenn Hoffman pick-pocketed a Pleasant Grove guard and found Anderson for the layup. Two Shelby Peters layups inflated the lead further as the Trojans led 36-13 at the half.

With the game well in hand, Oak Ridge continued to pressure on the Eagles. Bettencourt’s pass to a streaking Derkens for an easy layup upped the lead to 46-21 and, in the fourth quarter, the Trojans outscored Pleasant Grove 25-6 en route to the easy victory.

“It was sort of a perfect storm for us tonight. In the beginning they were missing some shots and we were able to capitalize, and it went from there. The nice thing is that our team knows that they can still get better, and that they have to get better for the future,” White said.

Bettencourt, Nikki Dow and Shelby Peters were named to the all-tournament team.

Bettencourt scored a dozen points against El Camino while Peters bucketed 13 and Dow 11 in the opener against Winters.
