Three Oak Ridge players scored in double digits in Friday’s Delta River League home game against Folsom but the Bulldogs escaped with a 73-64 overtime victory.
Trojan guard Tyus Millhollin scored 10 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter including two, three-pointers. Forward Connor Sende scored five of his 14 in the fourth and guard Matt Battaglia finished with 10 points.
“We played like a team,” Oak Ridge head coach Bobby Edwards said. “We did everything we could.”
Two of Battaglia’s points were critical. With Folsom clinging to a 58-56 lead with 19 seconds left after Bulldog Josiah Deguara canned two free throws, Battaglia’s putback of his own miss with less than a second left sent it to overtime.
“The whole game was a battle,” Edwards said. “We had to bring it all four quarters. We had to battle the entire time. You couldn’t ask for anything more. We played our butts off.”
Oak Ridge’s rally doused the effort of Folsom point guard Jordan Ford, who scored seven of his game-high 25 points in the last-minute of the quarter.
In overtime, Folsom (7-0, 22-2) owned the entire four minutes. After both teams exchanged opening points — Sende’s basket and Colin Russell’s 3-point play — Folsom went on a 12-4 run. The Trojans’ only other points were Millhollin and Sende free throws.
“That’s a good team,” said Edwards of Folsom. “We had to match the intensity, match the effort, match the heart and we did.”
Folsom led 38-37 entering the fourth but couldn’t shake Oak Ridge’s man-to-man and full-court presses that forced four Bulldog turnovers in the quarter.
Oak Ridge (3-4, 12-11) led twice in the final quarter and tied the game four times, including Battaglia’s putback to send the game into overtime.
In the third quarter, Folsom, which led 21-19 at halftime, expanded its lead to 34-28 thanks to its inside game. Oak Ridge chipped away behind Millhollin’s three-pointer and free throws, Jordan Roberts’ three-pointer and a jam from Sende that energized the Trojan student section.
The first half had Folsom jumping out to an 11-8 lead but a Justin Priest block rallied the Trojans to the 21-19 halftime score.
Roberts finished with nine points, Brogan Cooper and Jared Casey three each, and Michael Brenneman and Priest had two points each.
