Oak Ridge nine upends Franklin

Great pitching and a fast offensive start ignited the Oak Ridge Trojan baseball team to an 8-1 romp over the visiting Franklin Wildcats Wednesday. Trojan starter Alex Fitchett dominated, allowing only one run in five innings pitched.

For the second game in a row an Oak Ridge pitcher carried a no-hitter deep into the game. Fitchett’s gem  enabled the senior to bounce back from an opening day loss.

Troy came out of the gates swinging as Alex Dewatteville scored on an error to start the scoring and with two out, Oak Ridge opened the flood gates from there. Zack Mahon doubled to the left field wall to drive in a pair and after Franklin’s shaky pitching gave up two more walks, Cody Uharriet scored Oak Ridge’s fourth run and Mahon stole home as the Trojans built themselves a 5-0 cushion.

In the third inning, Jason Ross singled, Alex Fagalde reached on a bunt and after a ground out advanced Ross to third, Uharriet drive him home with a sacrifice fly that came 15 feet from clearing the fence.

Fitchett held the Wildcats hitless through the first four innings and the Trojans offense put up more runs in the bottom of the fourth. After Lance Berringer singled, Cody Morris and Mahon walked to load the bases for Uharriet who supplied another sacrifice fly to score Berringer. Ross singled in Morris for an 8-0 advantage.

Fitchett held the Wildcats hitless again in the fifth and gave up his only hit it the sixth when Franklin put its run on the board. Ross came in to pitch for Fitchett and shut down the Wildcats the rest of the way.

For the second game in a row, an Oak Ridge pitcher carried a no-hitter deep into the game.  Fitchett bounces back from his opening day loss with a gem.
