Failing to provide a successful press in the open field, and a stagnant offense doomed the Oak Ridge Lady Trojans as they fell to the visiting Bella Vista Broncos 1-0 Thursday afternoon in nonleague soccer action.

The match started slowly as early missed opportunities prevented the Trojans from reaching the scoreboard but Oak Ridge’s Carisa Rivers helped keep them in it. Seven minutes after a Bronco shot that eluded Rivers outstretched arm and missed wide, Bronco Megan Dickson broke free of her defender and had a clear shot on goal — only to be blocked by Rivers.

Bella Vista’s other threat was after Julia Platter received a deep pass with only field between her and Rivers until Troy’s Olivia Frace and Caira Wu ran Platter down to thwart the run.

The second half resembled the first as each team’s stagnant offense and bend-but-don’t-break defenses equated to what looked like a likely draw. In the 45th minute, Platter tested Rivers again with a booming shot Rivers held steady on and five minutes later, Dickson delivered a powerful shot that Rivers had to leap to clear.

Bella Vista finally broke through in the 57th minute when Lisa Elledge took a very long shot that just  arched over Rivers for the only goal of the game. Oak Ridge tried but couldn’t get the equalizer as Bella Vista left with the victory.
