Oak Ridge softball crushes Folsom

EL DORADO HILLS — After a season chock full of trials and tribulations, the Oak Ridge Lady Trojans softball squad finally put together a complete game Tuesday, walloping the Folsom Bulldogs 10-0 in five innings.

“We’ve come close to pulling out some good wins this season and we weren’t able to get that clutch hit, or clutch hits. Today our pitching, defense and offense all played great,” Troy coach Sam Kloczko said.

Instead of celebrating Senior Day, the Trojans commemorated “Jade Day,” honoring their only senior, Jade Matsumoto. Then the hit party started.

After Oak Ridge pitcher Christina Arace stranded a runner in the first inning, Troy scored in the bottom half and  a two-run double off the bat of Lauren Bertoy made it 3-0 in the second.

Oak Ridge added more in the third as Renee Bardini tripled in Nicole Martin and Jessica Burgess. Jackie Schmaeling singled in Bardini, Matsumoto doubled in Schmaeling and Bertoy singled in Matsumoto for an 8-0 advantage.

Bardini drove in Martin in the fourth for a 9-0 lead and Alyssa Burns relieved Arace in the top of the fifth. In the bottom half, Caitlyn Olan walked, Lindsey Zito singled and both advanced on a Jade Mercadel ground out. Martin ended it with a single up the middle to score Olan.

“We played a complete game today, and we are capable of playing this way every game next year,” Kloczko said.

Oak Ridge finished the season 6-17.
