Oak Ridge wrestling takes third at John Zehnder Duals

ELK GROVE — The Oak Ridge High varsity wrestling team improved to 8-3 after its third place finish last weekend in the John Zehnder Duals at Elk Grove High School. The Trojans went 3-2 in winning their first three matches before dropping the final two against the host school and Oakdale.

Oak Ridge opened with a 43-32 victory over College Park, defeated Granite Bay 46-34 and Rodriguez 38-30. Troy fell to the Thundering Herd 52-18 and were doubled up by the Mustangs 42-21.

Trojan Keaton Subjeck won two matches over state-ranked wrestlers to go 5-0 at the tournament. Other Oak Ridge notables were Cameron Miller, Ali Atebar and Hugh Ellerman, each at 4-1, and Taylor Ellerman and Preston Dean both went 3-2.

In JV action, Oak Ridge also showed well in placing 12 out of 20 wrestlers. First place medals went to: Curtis Meksner (5-0), James Portilla (5-0), Bishane Sagal (5-0), Joshua Child (5-0), Micheal Debeau (4-1) and Austin Hamilton (4-1). Second place went to Brian Debeau (4-1) and Arin Hill (3-2). Taking third was: Zach McGillis, Chandler Christy and Logan Mills, each 3-2, while James Lee won a tie-breaker on pin point to finish 2-3.
