Oak Ridge alumni triumph at triathlon

On Aug. 6 three Oak Ridge High School alumni combined their endurance specialties to form a triathlon relay at the 28th Annual TRI for FUN Triathlon held at Rancho Seco Park.

Connor Benander, who attends Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cody Kaiser, who is among the elite and nationally ranked cyclist, and Amjed Aboukhadijeh currently competing on UCLA’s Track Team proved to be a dominant force in this year’s competition, winning the event by a landslide.

Connor led off the race with a half-mile swim, giving the team a 30-plus second gap on the rest of the field and finishing with a time of 12 minutes. Cody continued to extend the lead during his biking portion making Amjed’s job very easy. Cody blazed the 16-mile course in approximately 40 minutes. Amjed anchored the team with a three-mile time of 14:42 solidifying the win and the fastest team time of the day.
