OR cross country qualifies for Friday’s section cross country meet

The Sac-Joaquin Section sub-section meet, held Saturday at Frogtown in Angels Camp, hosted cross country teams vying for berths in Friday’s section meet, the final qualifier for the Nov. 25 CIF State Meet on Fresno’s Woodward Park course.

Just 10 boys varsity teams and 10 girls varsity teams in each of five divisions qualified along with 10 individual runners not on a qualifying team. All others, including junior varsity boys and girls, freshman and sophomore boys, and frosh/soph girls send six teams and 10 individuals.

The top 25 runners in each varsity race received medals; the top 20 in all other divisions were medal recipients.

Friday’s races get underway at 9 a.m. at the Willow Hills Cross Country course adjacent to the Folsom High campus. State meet qualifiers will include: two Divison I girls and boys teams; four boys and three girls teams from D-II; three boys and three girls teams in D-III; and three boys and two girls teams in D-IV.

In addition, five individual qualifiers not on a team who meet other criteria will advance to the state meet. Junior varsity, freshman, sophomore and frosh/soph teams wrap up their season Friday.

Listed below are the section qualifiers from Oak Ridge and Ponderosa high schools.

Division I

Varsity boys: 5-Oak Ridge, 155. 29-Evan Baxter, 17:31; 30-Marcos Conde, 17:31; 31-Sean McHone, 17:31; 33-Dusty Armstrong, 17:32; 34-Ryan Prestegard, 17:32; 35-Jake Zeltner, 17:32.

Varsity girls: 2-Oak Ridge, 80. 14-Maxine Goyette, 20:05; 15-Holli Arrieta, 20:05; 16-Rachel Peterson, 20:05; 17-Ellie Velez, 20:06; 18-Sabrina Andrus, 20:07; 19-Maddie Dezordo, 20:08.

JV boys: 2-Oak Ridge, 50. 4-Jordan Hordesky, 11:55; 10-Colin Pilcher, 12:04; 11-JT Janecek, 12:07; 12-Nick Campanello, 12:08; 13-Alex Merry, 12:13.

Frosh/soph girls: 3-Oak Ridge, 77. 8-Sami Kilcollins, 13:53; 9-Whitney Wilhelmy, 13:54; 16-Mindy Ong, 14:23; 17-Femke Keukenkamp, 14:30; 27-Alison Bamford, 14:49.
