Sierra Valley Storm heading south again
In a four-game sweep, including a dramatic six-run deficit comeback victory in the Super Regional Championship game, the Storm 11s are back to back Super Regional Champs and are heading to Southern California again to take another shot at the Bronco 11 Zone title and a trip to the World Series in Virginia.
The 11s opened up their all-star season by advancing through the regional tournament in Pittsburg and spent last week in Modesto working their way through powerhouse programs from Bel Passi (Modesto) and the North Bay Admirals (Fairfield). They now will represent Northern California against the top teams from the West Coast in a four-day double elimination battle royale.
“The formula has been the same all through all-stars” said Manager Ryan Rodriguez. “Pitching, defense, and timely hitting will keep you in every ball game. We’ve played great catch and our effort and attitude on and off the field has been better than ever.”
The Storm’s players are looking to better zone performance from last year where they were eliminated by the eventual tournament champion from San Marcos.
The Storm 12s all-star run opened up in Rocklin where they started hot, but ran into a buzzsaw in a very strong team from Rocklin. The 12s advanced as the second-place team to Vacaville in the regional round but did not have enough gas to carry them through the third matchup.
