SACRAMENTO —  The Prospector Soccer Club U11 girls’ soccer team, Sparks, placed first at their first tournament of the season, American River Futbol Club’s Independence Cup at Cherry Island, June 29 through July 1.

Sparks ignited quickly in their first game to win 4-0 against River City United FC Freedom. Goalkeeper Juliet Dias and her defense maintained a shut-out game with shots scored by Luci Gulbransen, Grace Stiveson, Julin Kenison and Kendel Gisin. In game two the girls continued to sparkle, playing a tough match against El Dorado Hills SC’s Strikers and defeating them 3-2. Gulbransen once again started the goals, and was joined by  Ainsley Smith and then, with less than a minute to go, Ashley Abel shot in the winning goal. Game three ended in a sizzling 1-1 tie with a goal scored by Gisin against Davis Legacy’s Apex.

This advanced them to the championship round to once again face RCU’s Freedom. The girls were fired up as they displayed great passing, possession and teamwork with goals scored by Kendall Hoffman and Kenison for a 2-1 grand finale.
