Storm has strong showing in tourney
THE SIERRA VALLEY STORM 11u boys represented El Dorado Hills and Northern California extremely well at the the PONY West Zone Tournament in Walnut, winning two of the skills competitions and placing 2nd and 3rd in the other two.
Taking the field for their first game on July 21, the 11u Storm bested strong team from Spokane, Wash., 6-4. In a classic north-south rivalry game on Friday, the Storm jumped ahead of the East Long Beach All-Stars but were unable to hold on for the victory. The loss forced the Storm into the difficult task of winning six games in three days, but as they have done before the boys repsonded with grit and determination to beat Charter Oaks, 6-1 and Orangecrest in a tight 3-0 battle.
At the tail end of their second double header on Saturday, the Storm had the chance to exact revenge on their East Long Beach rivals. The boys fell behind 8-2 early, but scrapped back to tie the game by the top of the fifth inning. Momentum was building for the Storm; however, circumstances and home field advantage proved to be too much, as the East Long Beach team was able to score several runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 14-8.
