TAZ swimmers ready to defend title
The El Dorado Hills Tasmanian Devils swimmers started practice earlier this month, and the 2014 season introduces brand-new endeavors for the 49-year-old TAZ team.
First and foremost, the TAZ welcomes in head coach Marc Brown. Coach Marc is not new to the TAZ organization. He previously served as assistant coach for three consecutive years alongside his brother and former head coach Jason Brown.
“I extend a very warm welcome to our new head coach! Marc was a huge part of a coaching staff that last year yielded an undefeated regular season while also being successful in winning the coveted 1st Place Champs trophy,” said TAZ President Brett Jones.
“I bring high energy, passion for the sport, and the drive that every swimmer has the potential to be better in some aspect of the sport,” Marc said. “I always stress good sportsmanship, fun and hard work, so this season will be approached just like any other. Of course, there is a lot more pressure now that we are the defending champs, but it’s important to keep our eye on the prize and work as hard, or harder, than last season.
“We lost important pieces to our team with some older swimmers aging out, but I feel like we have athletes that can rise to the occasion and pick up where the others left off,” he continued. “There is no lack of talent on this team and that’s what excites me. We just need to get to work from day one, work toward our goals and we will reach them. I am excited to show what I can do as head coach; I can’t wait to get started!”
The TAZ also recently hosted Parent Night and “Back-to-Taz” in anticipation of the new season. The team will continue practice as it prepares for the Mock Meet on May 17. The Mock Meet is organized and designed to give swimmers the swim meet experience and establish stroke times.
TAZ’s first dual meet of the season takes place on Saturday, May 31, when the TAZ welcome the Folsom Sea Otters. For more information about the TAZ Swim Team visit edhtaz.org.
