Trojan swimmers head to Delta River League championship

”This was our last dual meet of the season and we had a lot of fast swims,” Oak Ridge coach Patrick Foster said after the April 13 meet.

The Trojan girls won every event of the day except one and the boys lost only three races. Final Scores: Varsity girls: Oak Ridge 120, Folsom 47; varsity boys: Oak Ridge 116, Folsom 50.

“I am very proud of everyone’s dedication to the sport,” Foster said. “The hard work has been paying off.”

Winning double individual events for the boys were Garrison Yeandle (200 free-1:49.95; 100 free- 48.20) and Dylan Kubick (100 fly-54.02;, 100 breast-1:03.76). Ryan Dewante won the 100 back with a time of 1:00.15.

The Trojan boys won all three relays — the 200 medley relay team of Kubick, Brandon Mills, Trevor Dong and Yeandle (1:41.79); the 200 free relay team of Mills, Everett Conrad, Joshua Verner and Dominic Cardinale (1:34.45); and the 400 free relay team of Dong, Verner, Kubick and Yeandle (3:19.56).

“A number of kids came very close to their section qualifying times at the meet,” Foster said “I know by league (championships) they will get them.”

Helping the Trojans win big on the girls’ side were multiple event winners Ashley Adams (200 free-2:07.45; 500 free-5:49.00) and Mikayla Mefford (50 free-26.51; 100 back-1:07.59).

Along with swimming on three winning relay teams, Hannah Bensman finished first in her 100 fly (1:01.74) and Cypress Lampe placed first in the 100 free (54.94). Adding to the score was a first- place finish from Kirsten Banks-Gwartney (100 breast-1:13.91.)

The Trojan 200 medley relay team of Adams, Lampe, Bensman and Mefford won in 1:55.88; the 200 free relay team of Lampe, Amrita Chimin, Bensman and Banks-Gwartney touched first in 1:46.08; and the 400 free relay team of Lampe, Maddie Velez, Bensman and Amanda Jones clocked first in 3:54.18.

“We are very excited for league dhampionships at the end of the month,” Foster said. “We can’t wait to see how well all the kids do.”

The Delta River League championships are April 29-30 at Jesuit. The diving championships will be held April 28 at Jesuit.
