Track and field teams place in top 10

Oak Ridge track and field teams competed at the King/Gilbert Invitational at Granite Bay High School on March 8, testing their skills against 17 other school teams.

The varsity boys’ team place fourth with 45 points and the varsity girls’ team placed eighth with 23 points. The The frosh/soph boys’ team placed seventh with 36 points and the frosh/soph girls’ team placed fourth with 48.5 points.

Many athletes obtained personal bests in their events and quite a few earned medals. The top 6 finishers in the individual events received medals and the top three relay teams received medals. Dominick Worsham tied for first in the varsity boys’ 100-meter dash with a time of 11.55. Brandon Jetter and Bryce Williams also raced very well in the varsity boys’ 100-meter dash placing third and fifth, respectfully.

Will Vaughn had a great start to his season, placing second in the varsity boys’ high jump with a jump of 6 feet, 6 inches. Will’s jump ties with two other athletes for fourth on the all-time list at Oak Ridge. This jump is also one of the top jumps in the section.

Austin Laut vaulted well in the varsity boys pole vault placing second with a vault of 13 feet, 6 inches. Freshman Ella Bunce vaulted well in the varsity girls pole vault placing third with a vault of 9 feet. Sophomore Arial Hendrickson had a breakthrough race in the 3,200-meter run by improving her time by 54 seconds from last year.  She placed fourth in the varsity girls 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:55.11.

The next meet for the Oak Ridge track and field teams will be the Depth Charge held at Folsom High School on Saturday, March 15, at 9 a.m. Ten teams will participate in this meet.
