Rachel Peterson has been lowering her times in the 1600 and 3200 meter races — and that’s a good thing.

The Oak Ridge long distance runner shined in Wednesday’s Delta River League home dual meet against Pleasant Grove. Peterson, a senior, was first in the 1600 at 5 minutes, 27.50 seconds and second in the 3200 at 12:17.91, just seconds from teammate Mikhayla Polivka, who registered a 12:17.62. The duo’s performance helped the varsity Lady Trojans post a 94-41 win over the Eagles.

Peterson is OK with her time in the 3200. She feels by the time that the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet comes around next month, her time should be hovering in the 10s.

“I’m just pacing it,” Peterson said. “I’m not going to be breaking 11 today. I’m just going to work on the middle laps, keep in shape.”

Joining Peterson and Polivka in taking first place were Briana Dulgar in the 400 meter, Sabrina Andrus in the 800 meter, Atiah Brinson in the shot put and Kylie Harrop-St. John and Elia Bunce in the pole vault.

Oak Ridge won the varsity boys meet over Pleasant Grove, 89-47. Taking home first place honors were Bryce Williams in the 100 meter, Josh Gladwell in the 800, Griffin Prather in the 300 high hurdles, William Vaughn in the high jump, Nathan Hutchinson-McHone in the shot put and Austin Laut in the pole vault.

Frosh/soph boys bested Pleasant Grove, 110-7, and the frosh/soph girls lost, 26-94.
